Zimbe! – Come, Sing the Songs of Africa

One of the centrepieces of the evening, Zimbe! is a vibrant, high-energy choral work that brings together over 350 singers in a powerful celebration of rhythm, culture and community.

Composed by Alexander L’Estrange, an award-winning British composer known for blending the richness of choral music with the energy of jazz, Zimbe! reimagines traditional African songs into something truly unique.

The result is a performance that is at times deeply moving, at others irresistibly rhythmic and uplifting, but always full of life and energy.

Performed by a choir of adult and children’s voices, accompanied by a live jazz band, the piece reflects the communal spirit of music-making at its most powerful — bringing together performers of all ages in one shared musical experience.

Since its premiere, Zimbe! has become a global phenomenon, performed around the world and even celebrated at New York’s Carnegie Hall, with tens of thousands of young singers taking part in performances.

Adding to the occasion, we are delighted to welcome the composer himself, Alexander L’Estrange, who will be working with performers in the lead-up to the concert, bringing his insight, energy and distinctive musical voice directly to the performance.

An extraordinary musical journey that is joyful, dynamic and deeply human — Zimbe! is not just something you hear, it’s something you feel.
